Wanless Park

Getting its name from the beautiful park at the centre of the community, Wanless Park is a highly sought-after North Toronto neighbourhood. Bordered by Lawrence Avenue East to the south and Ronan Avenue to the west, the neighbourhood of Wanless Park offers much more than its eponymous green space. Known as a family-friendly area, there’s much to love for locals and visitors alike.

The History of Wanless Park

The story of Wanless Park began in the early 1900s when the development of a subdivision at the old Waverly Farm began. Originally, developers dubbed this neighbourhood ‘Waverly Park.’ Over the years, the area saw more development, although housing construction saw brief hiccups during World War One and the Great Depression.

In the 1930s, the City of Toronto expropriated the properties in the area to create the public park that we now know as Wanless Park, named after a local alderman and teacher, John Wanless. Homes were built around the park at the core of the neighbourhood, and Wanless Park became the family-friendly community we know today.

The park is the central hub of the neighbourhood, but there are other recreational facilities including the Bedford Park Community Centre.

Wanless Park locals also enjoy proximity to the Yonge Street shopping district, great dining, easy transportation, and more.
