Casa Loma

Perched above Toronto’s busting core, Casa Loma sits immediately north of The Annex neighbourhood. It is bound by Spadina Road to the west and Bathurst Street to the east. While occasionally overshadowed by the cultural landmark which it shares a name with, this charming neighbourhood is a crown jewel among Toronto’s upscale enclaves.

The History of Casa Loma

The neighbourhood’s establishment was sparked by the completion of Casa Loma, the sprawling Castle estate of financier Sir Henry Pallett which once was the largest private residence in Canada. As other affluent Torontonians sought to live close to the city’s most successful business magnate, formal real estate development in the area began in the early twentieth century.

Over the following decades, wealthy home buyers remained attracted to the neighbourhood’s elevated status. This migration would help preserve Casa Loma’s exclusive profile.

Living in Casa Loma

A beacon of affluent living, Casa Loma’s residents are some of the city’s most discerning. Drawn to the neighbourhood’s sophisticated reputation, quiet upscale atmosphere, and proximity to some of the top-ranked public and private schools in the province, Casa Loma remains a first-choice destination for primarily higher-income families.

Housing Stock in Casa Loma

With many properties taking cues from the Castle’s palatial opulence, much of Casa Loma’s housing stock reflects the upscale tastes of residents. From an architectural perspective, Georgian and Tudor-style properties are among some of the most prominent.

Homes in Casa Loma often feature distinctive design flourishes and subtle yet imposing architectural details. As a high-income family neighbourhood, compact housing options are sparse, however, some modern condo properties can be found on Casa Loma’s boundary streets.
